The Bankstown Library and Knowledge centre project saw the original Town Hall Building adapted and re-used to develop a state-of-the-art learning facility for Bankstown City Council, recycling existing building materials, including concrete façade, metal deck roofing and solid timber floors. The development includes a new library over three stories, a 300 seat theatre, community conference facilities, new cafe, interactive community information wall and public domain improvements.
Working with FJMT, Steensen Varming led the ESD initiatives in meeting the brief requirements to create a high quality sustainable and iconic building of distinctive architectural character. Steensen Varming also covered Mechanical, Electrical and Specialist Lighting design services on this project. key initiatives include natural ventilation, mixed mode ventilation via underfloor system, increased daylighting to the core via skylights, thermal labyrinth, solar PV and ground source heat pumps.
