The switchboard upgrade project at the National Gallery of Australia Canberra involved the D&C design and documentation for the replacement of 2 major mechanical switchboards and approximately 33 general power and lighting distribution boards located throughout the building. The scope involved the detailed survey of each switchboard, review of as installed documentation available and the detailed specification of the scope of works for each switchboard to be replaced.
Steensen Varming worked closely with the National Gallery of Australia to specify methodology requirements to ensure the works were delivered by the contractor in a manner which had the least impact on the building’s normal operation. This was especially critical for the mechanical switchboards as works could not occur during normal hours, as the building had to remain operational during normal opening hours, and the mechanical switchboards being replaced supplied and controlled a substantial portion of the building.
