Steensen Varming is proud to be supporting Wilya Janta in their mission to ‘develop community led solutions to the wicked remote housing challenge.’
For the Wilya Janta pilot to providea suitable scalable alternative to the existing remote housing model, it must prove that it is feasible to invest in appropriate community consultation at the design phase of the construction lifecycle whilst meeting a price competitive overall construction budget that is comparable to the current remote housing model.
Through collaboration with the design partners Wilya Janta can embrace best practice and innovative, employ scalable construction methodologies that can demonstrate better industry outcomes, better value for money, and most importantly better houses that are responsive to culture and environment and is resilient to increasing temperature extremes caused by climate change.
To date, the Steensen Varming team have explored the relationship between the site and its surrounding environment, culture and community and have worked closely with the founders on their design of their future homes. Our continued role will be to provide design services and to work with the team as we explore the relationship between culture, environment, thermal performance, budget, materials, and ongoing maintenance.
