Steensen Varming have been engaged as part of a major infrastructure programme to design the electrification strategy for the British Museum in achieving sustainability targets and resilience for the future.
The design included a new high-voltage network servicing five substations to meet the capacity demands of the Museums wider masterplan aspirations.
A resilience strategy was developed, in collaboration with the Museum, which introduced 3.2MVA of standby generation which was integrated into the network. All works required careful consideration of the importance of the building and the art housed within. New reticulation was seamlessly introduced into the heritage listed building, with an appreciation of the sensitivity of the building fabric.
All of these works have been phased to ensure minimal impact on the continued operation of the Museum.
