The new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital will service Moruya, Batemans Bay, and surrounding towns. The project will deliver new contemporary Medical, Surgical, Allied Health and Mental Health infrastructure along with new clinical and non-clinical support services.
The new development is a pilot project for the NSW Government Architect’s ‘Connecting with Country’ framework. The framework ensures Aboriginal consultation occurs through the delivery of the new hospital. Connecting with Country seeks local Aboriginal knowledge in design and in strategies to reduce the impacts of natural events such as fire, drought and flooding through sustainable land and water use practices as well as cultural health, wellbeing and healing practices.
The hospital’s design is being guided by local Aboriginal knowledge to build connections with Country, including the use of Dhurga language to support wayfinding around the hospital campus and the inclusion of a Meeting Place.
Working with the design team, and local stakeholders, Steensen Varming implemented a collaborative masterplan approach so that the electrical and communications services masterplan, feasibility and schematic designs address the functional requirements of the hospital development.
