As part of the NSW Government’s plan to rebuild public education, Katoomba High School has a new Multipurpose Hall which includes a stage; indoor sports court; toilets and change rooms; storage; and back of house facilities for performing arts.
One of the first SINSW schools projects to be designed under the new NCC 2022 bushfire requirements the hall is also intended to provide refuge for students and staff during bushfire events.
The project required resilient services design through diligent research and design of the services to ensure consideration of the critical operating conditions, capital cost impact, good indoor environment and ongoing maintenance and operational costs.
Steensen Varming was engaged to provide Mechanical, Electrical and ESD from masterplan to project delivery.
