Steensen Varming contributed to the lighting design and delivery of ‘Monuments for Fishes’, a remarkable new public artwork by Australian artist Mikala Dwyer in Watermans Cove, Barangaroo.
Inspired by traditional fishing floats, this innovative artwork transforms Watermans Cove into a powerful place of reflection and storytelling, honouring Barangaroo and the Indigenous fisherwomen of the Eora nation who gathered and fished in these waters for generations.
Working in close collaboration Event Engineering, Lendlease and Cundall (electrical), Steensen Varming provided the lighting design for the project, carefully crafting an illumination strategy that supports and enhances Mikala’s vision while remaining sensitive to the surrounding environment, harbour setting, and neighbouring residents. The result is a restful artwork of majestic forms watchfully protective at night and destined to become an icon of the Sydney Harbour foreshore.
